There's no right or wrong when it comes to nails. Some lust after long,
elegant nails while others revel in bright neon
colours or stiletto nails. Whichever you prefer, summer is just around
the corner and switching up your nails to match the hottest trends is essential.
To celebrate the 2019 summer season, here is a go-to guide of tips and tricks to up your nail game as the temperature rises.
Bright pastels and neons have made a comeback on the international runways as well as on Pinterest, which proves that it is indeed the perfect time to take a bolder approach with your manicure. If bright, bold colours aren’t your vibe, don't be afraid to try some nail art in more subtle hues, or opt for ombre shades, or a neutral look with a few accent nails which will really pull it all together. It's all about what makes you feel happy and confident! As an example, we used a darker shade of pink for the accent and added a few stars to create a bolder look.

If you’re new to nail art, start by using stencils or trying an easier design. When it comes to nail shapes, there are nine main shapes to choose from: square, round, rounded square, oval, squoval, ballerina, almond, stiletto and lipstick.
When trying to find a shape that suits your nails, the best way to determine this is to mimic the shape of your cuticles. If you have oval or almond-shaped cuticles, it's best to match it with oval or almond-shaped nails.
Like colours, there are certain shapes that can enhance the look of your fingers, so if you’re worried about your nails looking short or stubby, avoid round and flat shapes. Instead. Instead, opt for a long almond or stiletto shape as this will elongate your nails and fingers. If you’re looking for the strongest nail shape, opt for short and round nails. This shape will also prevent your nails from splitting.
When it comes to picking the right shade, anything usually goes, but certain colours will enhance your skin tone while others will make it look dull.
The general rule is that if you have a lighter skin tone, go for brighter shades like red, purple, or blue. If you have a warmer skin tone, it's safer to select warm shades like pink, peach and coral. If you have cooler undertones, it's best to pick cool shades like mint green or hot pink.
There are many shades that go with a darker tone, contrary to popular belief. Deep skin tones paired with nail polishes that offer a punch of high impact colour actually complement and accentuate the skin. When in doubt, nude colours with slight pink undertones work best with any skin tone. They look good on everyone and are classic staples.
